The Ontario Brain Injury Association (OBIA) is pleased to announce the release of its latest Brain Injury Speaks report, The Impact of Brain Injury on Personal Relationships: Experiences and Perspectives.
Drawing on findings from the Brain Injury Speaks Network’s Relationships and Brain Injury Study, the report explores the lived experiences of individuals with brain injury across Ontario and examines how brain injury can affect friendships, romantic relationships, and workplace connections. It highlights both the challenges many people face and the vital role that meaningful relationships, social support, and community play in recovery and overall well-being.
The findings underscore the importance of recognizing the social and emotional impacts of brain injury alongside the physical and cognitive effects. By amplifying the voices of those with lived experience, the report provides valuable insights for healthcare professionals, service providers, policymakers, researchers, and anyone seeking to better understand the realities of living with brain injury.
OBIA extends its sincere thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and contributed to the Brain Injury Speaks Network’s Relationships and Brain Injury Study. Your voices are helping to increase awareness, inform services, and support meaningful change.
