The Ontario Brain Injury Association (OBIA) is excited to announce the creation of a Brain Injury Awareness Flag for the province, made possible through the generous support of a donor who shares our vision of raising awareness for acquired brain injury (ABI). This initiative aims to provide a unifying symbol for the brain injury community, foster a sense of pride and recognition for individuals impacted by ABI, and engage the public in understanding the importance of ABI awareness.
The flag will serve as a powerful symbol during Brain Injury Awareness Month and beyond, representing resilience, hope, and the strength of the ABI community.
Why We Are Doing This?
- Awareness: To create a visible and lasting emblem for Brain Injury Awareness Month, encouraging municipalities and organizations to fly the flag as a sign of support.
- Community Engagement: To involve individuals living with the effects of ABI, caregivers, and families in a meaningful and creative project that reflects their experiences and aspirations.
- Unity: To foster a sense of connection and shared identity across Ontario’s brain injury community.
What We Are Doing?
OBIA invites individuals living with the effects of ABI, caregivers, and family members to participate in a design contest to create artwork for the flag. This contest provides members with a unique opportunity to contribute creatively to a project that will have a lasting impact.
The winning design, or a compilation of several designs, will be used to produce the Brain Injury Awareness Flag, which will be unveiled in June during Brain Injury Awareness Month. OBIA will ensure that the final design aligns with the donor’s wishes, our goals, and the flag’s purpose as a public-facing symbol.
